Athletes must respect the horses on the roads and pathways or risk disqualification. This may mean slowing, walking, stopping, etc at times to accommodate horse crossings, passing. tight areas, and more. Please always be aware and always give horses and carriages plenty of room and consideration.
All athletes that are on the open roads and trails must adhere to the rules of the road. Share the road, stay to the right, yield to oncoming traffic and be aware of others, especially passing bikes. Those that are found in violation will risk penalty or even disqualification.
Before and after the event please note that Mackinac Island does not allow motorized vehicles (with the exception of fire/EMS). Your own two feet, bicycle, and horse are the main modes of transportation on the island.
